WHY MONITOR?

BLOOD PRESSURE:

  • Stroke - High blood pressure can cause blood vessels in the brain to burst or clog more easily which may result in a stroke. Stroke causes paralysis, loss of speech, vision, sensation or face asymmetry. When high blood pressure is treated it decreases the chances of a stroke by 36%.
  • Heart Attack - High blood pressure damages arteries and causes them to narrow and stiffen which can lead to a heart attack.
  • Heart Failure - High blood pressure can cause the heart to enlarge and fail to supply blood to the body which can cause heart failure.
  • Kidney Disease / Failure - High blood pressure can damage the arteries in the kidneys and interfere with their ability to effectively filter blood which leads to kidney disease / failure.
  • Loss of Vision - High blood pressure can damage the vessels in the eyes which can result in loss of vision.

OXYGEN SATURATION:
The SpO2% on the Pulse Oximeter screen reflects the saturation of your red blood cells with oxygen. The oxygen saturation level reading may help to determine if supplemental oxygen would be required. A lower than normal level of oxygen in the blood may result in headache, rapid heart rate, coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing, confusion, blueness of the skin and mucus membranes (cyanosis).

BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL:

According to the CDC-USA, regular blood sugar monitoring is the most important thing you can do to manage type 1 or type 2 diabetes. You’ll be able to see what makes your numbers go up or down, such as eating different foods, taking your medicine, or being physically active. With this information, you can work with your health care team to make decisions about your best diabetes care plan. These decisions can help delay or prevent diabetes complications such as heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, blindness, and amputation. Your doctor will tell you when and how often to check your blood sugar levels.

PULSE (HEART) RATE:

Measuring the pulse gives important information about your health. Any significant change from a normal heart rate can indicate a health problem. Signs to look out for are if the resting heart rate is consistently too fast or too slow.

WEIGHT:

Weight issues increase the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, breathing problems and certain cancers. Daily weight monitoring can help in the adoption of disciplined weight control.

TEMPERATURE:

The measurement of body temperature can help detect illness and help monitor whether a treatment is working or not. Monitoring your body temeprature, even when you are healthy, can help detect diseases or an infection early.
